Club Trial - Sat 9th September
Having had a successful first week of rugby at Chiswick, we now have the club trial taking place on Saturday 9th September. With the "one squad" approach to competitive play in Chiswick, and the increased number of players, and therefore competition for places, a club trial is organised for Saturday. Every player looking to play competitive rugby at Chiswick this season, in the league for the 1s or merit table for the 2s, is expected to attend.
The meet time is 2pm, with the trial due to kick off at 3. The format is four 20 minute sessions, the first two sessions and last two sessions will be broken by only a short water break. The break between sessions 2 and 3 will be more like a normal half time in a regular game.
The objective of the day is to enable all players to show their abilities in front of the coaches and selectors. This allows new players to stake a claim for inclusion in the sides, and players who are in direct competition for places to prove to the selectors they deserve to be awarded the jersey. The coaches will choose the starting sides, and will look to rotate players throughout the afternoon to ensure everyone in attendance is seen, and particular combinations of players are examined.
Be assured, the sides picked will not be a probables versus possibles, nor a 1st vs 2nd team. We are interested in pitting evenly matched sides against each other to ensure all players play under pressure and have the opportunity to show their true capabilities.
Medical facilities, society referee and new match balls have all been arranged. This day will be treated like any other playing day at Chiswick, with all facilities and back up provided.
Following the trial the selectors and coaches will get together to assess the performances and choose teams for the initial games for the first and second fifteen.
So make sure you come down and give of your best. No places in either the first or second are assured due to the high quality and large number of players looking to play rgby for Chiswick this coming season. Of course, given the attendance of such a large number of players at home on a Saturday the scene in the clubhouse on Saturday promises to be fun, with no doubt emphasised tales of heroics told at the bar!
Any questions or queries about this Saturday I am happy to address at training on Tuesday or Thursday.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Saturday
